Bumps on the Road – 9K Walk

Exercise during pregnancy is very important to include into your daily routine. It is the simplist and easiest form of low impact exercise to do daily while pregnant (as well as pre and post pregnancy). It helps to maintain the efficiency of your heart and lungs and increases blood oxygen exchange throughout your body and your growing baby’s too!

Although everyone can benefit from walking during pregnancy, be aware of your heart rate and body temperature to ensure you stay within a safe zone (about a 3-5/10). Remember to stop immediately if you feel faint, dizzy, sick or something abdormal. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothes and get that body moving!

If you are pregnant and want to get out to support a great cause, while getting some great exercise check out Bumps on the Road. The Canadian Foundation for Women’s Health (CFWH) is hosting its second annual volunteer driven event “Bumps on the Road- A 9K Walk for Pregnancy” on Sunday, October 21 2012, starting at our national office at 780 Echo Drive in Old Ottawa South. 9 K represents 9 months of carrying a baby! We invite women, especially healthy pregnant women, and their families to participate. We are encouraging everyone to wear fake bellies or weighted backpacks to simulate the extra weight that a woman carries during 9 arduous months.

The event is meant to bring together local communities to support women’s sexual and reproductive health. All proceeds will go towards the CFWH Research Award, Fellowships and Grants Program. The CFWH is Canada’s leading committed to the advancement of sexual and reproductive health of women in Canada and around the world through groundbreaking research, comprehensive education and leading advocacy in obstetrics and gynecology.
