Dress Your Budding Pregnant Body Without Breaking the Bank [Guest Post By Kat Neumann]

Pregnancy is an exciting time in your life; one you may have been dreaming about for years. However, it can also be an expensive time. With buying supplies for your baby’s arrival, you may not have a lot of money left over for your developing body’s new wardrobe. Here are some ideas to help you save money while keeping that baby bump in style!

Raid your friend’s closet- Your friends are there with support, advice and hand me down baby clothes, why not raid their closets for maternity wear as well? There is only so long that a person can (and should) wear their maternity items, your friends will likely be happy to see the pieces get put to good use.

Consignment shops- Most women who spend a fair bit of money on maternity wear are looking to recoup some of their funds. Check out local consignment shops for great pregnancy finds.

Your partner’s closet: When all else fails, try raiding your partner’s closet for some versatile items, such as a button up shirt. These can be worn over leggings and can be belted just below your bust to create a bit of shape. If nothing else, you partner’s closet will offer a plethora of options for comfy items to wear around the house.

Bras- Replacing undergarments to fit your newly pregnant body can get pricey. Purchase a couple bras that can grow with you. Stick to neutral colors that will work with all outfits.

Transitional pieces- Choose transitional pieces that are not maternity wear and will also function well within your wardrobe during that awkward, post pregnancy time when your body is still adjusting. These include flowy tops, long tunics and empire waists.

Great basics- If you are going to invest in any pieces, ensure that they are basics that you will get a lot of wear out of. A stretchy, jersey black dress; dark wash maternity jeans and some basic tees are excellent starting points.

Mainstream stores- Specialty maternity shops can be pricey, however, mainstreamstores are starting to introduce maternity lines. Not only are their prices reasonable, their pieces are on-trend. Check out the lines available at Old Navy, H&M and Forever 21; both Old Navy and Forever 21 lines are available online.

An old-fashioned rubber band- In the early stages of your pregnancy, it is still possible to wear your regular jeans without having the almighty struggle to do the button up! Simply loop an elastic band through the buttonhole and around the button. This will keep your pants up while allowing room for your burgeoning belly.  Top this off with a longer shirt that flows away from your stomach.
