Tis the Season….For Colds & Flus :(

Tis the Season!!! The season for colds, flu, sickness, coughs, sneezing, blowing your nose, chills, aches, pains….I think you catch my drift! I don’t know about you, but this household has been going through the motions of all of the above for the past month or so!

We are usually a relatively healthy household. We never really had to take my daughter to see a doctor other than her scheduled check ups and needles. Never had to take her to emerg, and was hardly sick! Then last year, she started school. Well now! Talk about germ city! We have never been as sick as we were last fall/winter! It seemed like one of the four of us were ALWAYS sick with something! At the beginning of December (2011) we were at emerg like 3 times within a week! My daughter ended up with a bad cold, then ear infection, then my son who was only 8 months at the time had his first bought of pnuemonia! Oy! It was a rough winter health wise!

This past summer we were pretty good, the odd cold bug, but nothing major. Fast forward to this October – I was in Paris, my husband had to take my son in to emerg because he was coughing so badly he was getting sick. He had croup. A few days after I got home, he was on the mend. A week after that he was sick again with a cold. Then my husband started with it. Then my daughter. Then this week it was me who caught it. Oh, and now my son….AGAIN! Seriously! I don’t think we can escape it!

It is bad when your children are sick. You feel bad, and there isn’t much you can really do for a cold/virus other than let it run it’s course. We have a homeopathic cough medicine we use or children’s Tylenol if they are fevered or in pain. We also use a humidifier and try to get them fresh air, use Vick’s rub, etc. You know, all the usual stuff. It breaks my heart to see them sick and feel helpless.

It is a WHOLE other kinda pain when I am sick, and having to still be a stay at home Mom. Who can I call in sick to? Who is here to help me and let me sleep? Oy! It is sometimes worse when I am sick then when they are. My daughter can understand when I say “Mommy’s not feeling good”. But my son, oh he has no idea! He just wants to play, and squeal, and be his normal busy self. When all I want to do is sleep, lay still, have a bath or just sit still! Someone somewhere should start a “Help Sick Moms Committee”, so Moms can just call up and call in reinforcement!

Now when my husband is sick and down and out….oh don’t get me started! He is worse than the kids!! So hold up you cough medicine and ‘Cheers’! Welcome to cold & flu season…here’s hoping you don’t have to spend much time in bed because of it, or at the doctors, or in the medicinal aisles! How long until spring and fresh/clean air again!!??

OH my dear gosh....I hear you there. We've been going through this as well....and yes when school starts IT starts. Speaking of being sick...my oldest had strept throat 3 wks ago. to no surprise...I got it too, BUT with 2 added bonuses...sinus infection and bronchitis....yay me!!!..nope...no one did the dishes other than me, including diner etc.... like you said....no escapes for us Mommies.... I am feeling much better after a horrible 13 days not sleeping (yes, literally)..but now..my poor littlest one is home sick with a beginning of a lung infection and possible strept. The ball just keeps rolling and rolling...my hopes is that it hits a brick wall sooner rather than later...this stuff is hard... it breaks my heart when my kids are sick... wishing everyone no balls in their court.

OMG, Lynda you have it pretty bad right now! I have read on your facebook about you guys being sick! Wowzers! When it rains it really pours though eh!? Poor lil Emma! I hope you are ALL feeling better in no time, and especially before Christmas and all the festivities that come along with it! :)

Thank You :) it was rough for while but it sure helps to deal with a sick child when you're not sick yourself. Sometimes I thank god for antibiotics. Emma is a miserable little girl this afternoon. She needs a nap but refuses. I started up the wood stove to warm up the house for her as well. Hopefully everyone is fine and healthy next week and can enjoy the 10+ CM of snow heading our way. Then it will look like Christmas....and out here?..GORGEOUS!!! :) take care and thanks again for the well wishes.

We've been sick too but I had to laugh out loud re: the part about your hubby. When Steve is sick the ENTIRE WORLD IS CRUMBLING DOWN ON HIS HEAD. LOL He is such a baby when he is sick and he knows it too! I think it has something to do with them being babied as they were growing up ;)

RIGHT!!?? Seriously! Annoying! And it is totally fine for him to spend the day in bed, or on the couch and not do anything, but when I am sick, I gotta keep about my usual routine *sigh* someday it will be different....right!!?? lol

HA ha ha ha....I think we can all relate.... what's worse than a sick child....a sick hubby!.... My Steve is the same way....he always makes it seem like he has it the worse of all. Not sure why men are like that...we got babied as well being sick like children....but then again.....I doubt men truly grow up...so that might be it....they are still a child in a mans body!!... Good luck to us all!!
