Dressing for Your Holiday Parties on a Budget [Guest Blog Post by Kat Neumann]

Holiday party season is upon us and that can mean shelling out a lot of money buying outfits for each event (who wants to be seen wearing the same thing twice?!). Here are some ways to save money while still looking fabulous this holiday season.

Do you have champagne tastes on a beer budget? Check out Rent, Frock, Repeat, a Toronto based company that rents designer dresses. This company carries a varied array of sizes and styles. Simply go online (or visit their showroom for a fitting), choose a dress that you like and have it delivered right to your door. The RFR will also send you a second size, free of charge in case the first one doesn’t fit. Once you have rocked your holiday party frock, you simply place it in the postage paid envelope they provide and mail it back to them. Prices vary by dress.

Do you find your closet full of dresses you have only worn once? Why not try a consignment shop? Using a consignment shop will benefit you twofold. One, you can bring in all those pieces you have worn a handful of times and make some money on them. While there, take a look at the party appropriate attire that the store carries. Shopping consignment is so no longer just about heading to the local Value Village; chic, on-trend consignment stores are popping up all over the place. They are often strict about not only the quality of the clothing they are accepting but also the brand names they will stock. This means you can find some amazing, well-made items at a price that can’t be beat.

Do you want to make current pieces look holiday worthy? The holidays are all about sparkle and shine. It is no different when it comes to your holiday party attire. Take your basic staples and make them party worthy. Elevate basic bottoms, with a top that has sequins, beading or shine. Old Navy currently carries sequined tanks for $19.

Do you find yourself reaching for old faithful? A little black dress (LBD) is a staple in most women’s wardrobes. It is that dress that you always feel good in. Make your LBD look different every time you wear it by playing with jewelry. Choose a statement necklace one day, then pair the LBD with bold, dangling earrings the next. The possibilities are endless given what is available in jewelry these days. You don’t need to break the bank when it comes to accessories either. Forever 21, H&M, Aldo Accessories and Joe Fresh always have large selections of on-trend jewelry at low prices. Have some fun, and think about making an impression with bold pieces.
