DECEMBER 1 – DECEMBER 8: THE ROYAL OTTAWA’S 26TH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TREE SALE
The Royal’s annual Christmas tree sale kicks off Saturday, December 1.
One-hundred per cent of the sales of these beautiful Nova Scotia balsam firs will be used to provide activities and experiences to the patients and families supported by The Royal. Over the years, these activities have included the provision of grocery gift cards for outpatients on limited incomes, additional funds to support recreational activities, crafts and outings which enhance the quality of life for our clients.
Volunteers will be unloading and setting-up 950 trees, freshly delivered from Nova Scotia, Saturday, December 1, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Where: Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre, 1145 Carling Avenue.
Sale Hours:
Monday to Friday: 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday, December 1 to Monday, December 24 or until the trees are sold out.
Prices:
$40 for 5-feet tall
$50 for 6-feet tall
$5 for each additional foot in height
The success of this annual tree sale is made possible because of many dedicated volunteers and generous supporters. DECEMBER 8: CARRIE UNDERWOOD AT SCOTIABANK PLACE
’I can’t wait to get back out on the road and perform new music from my new album (Blown Away) for my fans,” says Underwood. ’We have a lot of exciting things planned.”
Underwood is donating $1 from each ticket sold on the North American leg of The Blown Away Tour to support Red Cross disaster relief. Every year, the American Red Cross prepares for and responds to nearly 70,000 disasters across the United States. This donation will help the Red Cross provide shelter, food and emotional support for those in need during such crisis situations. Proceeds from her Canadian concerts will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross.

DECEMBER 16: OTTAWA IDOL
Kiwanis Idol, a contest held every year for the city’s young singing talent, has changed its name to Ottawa Idol. The organization is holding its ninth-annual Christmas dinner and concert at Villa Lucia Supper Club, 3430 Carling Ave. on Dec. 16 from 6 to 10 p.m. The proceeds of the event will support Ottawa Idol.
Ten Idol singers will perform with a seven-piece band, including 2012 Idol winner Alexandra Maheral and finalists Rachel Stiles, Jesse Pascoe, Laura D’Amico, Michelle Treacy, Miranda Quesnel, Jennifer Lauren, Antonio Pezoulas, Allison Neville and Crystalena Paquette.
“We put a band together each year after our Idol contest with our top-10 to do concerts and to give our young Idol singers a stage to hone their singing talent,” said Eldon Fox, Ottawa Idol organizer.
