I’ve Been Every Hair (Colour) Man!!

I’ve Been Every Hair (Colour) Man!!

  • Delicious

The title really says it all, as my family and friends can attest to, I pretty much have had every colour of hair that you can think of, and some were total by accident! Seriously it is a wonder that I even have hair still, with the crazy things I have done to it over the years!

It started pretty young for me. I remember in elementary school (like grade 6-7ish) trying to colour my hair with Kool-Aid. Seriously. Of course it DID change the colour, but as soon as you washed it, the tub turned the colour of the Kool-Aid and your hair was back to normal.

I then remember buying a semi-permanent colour afterwards and having a strawberry blonde kinda colour. My mother was NOT impressed with me.

And so started my obsession with constantly changing my hair style and colour. I was trying to look back at pictures of all the colours I have been, and before 2004 they were not digital, so are not on my computer – but those bad pics are out there!

I have had long red/orange hair. Short curly hair. Short blonde hair. Long blonde hair. Permed hair. Short 2 toned almost black & platinum blond. The list goes on! Here are just some of the many colours/lengths/textures of hair that I have had!

Les&Crystal3I remember in high school, I was dying my hair blonde myself like every 4 weeks. I was also sleeping with velcro rollers in – remember the show Dharma & Greg? Well my hair was short and curly like hers. My poor head! I won best hair in the school year book, 2 years in a row, but man my head hurt at night!

I actually used to be a hair dresser. I went to hair school, and while there acted like a model head for a classmate. Lets just say that I ended up chopping my hair off, and it was almost a salmon pink colour before I dyed it dark to cover it up. My hair was so damaged that it literally felt like cooked spaghetti (not good) in my hands! The picture above of Erin and I was from a competition that I was in and used her as my model. I chopped her hair from shoulder length and coloured it dark brown/black with platinum highlights — we won 1st prize!! :)

THIS is actually my natural hair colour (well as of 2008 anyways!)

I didn’t stick with hairdressing for very long, but continued to cut and colour my own hair for quite some time. Since having my son, I had been growing my hair out and getting high lights/low lights.

Just recently – like a week and a half ago recently - I decided that I needed to change it up again! I wasn’t sure how I felt about it once it was done! I loved it, and my hairdresser did exactly as I had asked (Thank you Krystal!!! :) ), but I wasn’t used to being so light coloured again, as it had been so long and I didn’t know if I could rock it. But I am now, really loving it!

The whole process however got me thinking (and laughing!) about how I am really a hair chameleon! I have been changing my hair colour for about 18 years now! You never know what colour I will be next! ;)

Do you dye your hair? Are you a little crazy about it like me!? lol Would love to know what you think about dying your hair and any mishaps you may have encountered along the way!

I can relate! I remember starting with Sun-In when I was 12 or so, then it was Flirt (which made my hair purple and I loved it), then I got into real dye... I've been blonde, brunette, redhead, black, and even shaved my head. How I pretty much stick to medium blonde with highlights, and sometimes I get a few pink meshes for fun!
