Rock the Castle During Nature Nocturne, an Adult-Only Event at the Canadian Museum of Nature (Debuts Friday, January 25)

The Museum of Nature is a place that we’ve reviewed here on the blog but in a much different capacity. When most people talk about, or blog about, the Museum they are often talking about how much fun their kids had. Now, adults can have just as much fun at the Museum during Nature Nocturne.

Nature Nocturne is a new programme for adults that offers a unique combo of art, music, galleries and interactive experiences. The first evening debuts January 25 and will be held from 8pm to midnight on the last Friday of every month.

“Nature Nocturne will be held on the last Friday of each month, offering a mix of unique experiences each time,” explains Cynthia Iburg, the programme coordinator. “This month we’ll have special art installations in different exhibit spaces, and they’re all interactive or collaborative in some way.”

On Friday, January 25th, guests of the Museum can expect a few really interesting and exciting installations and interactive exhibits such as:

  • The Luminartists – a group that specializes in interactive digital projections. They will be setting up an abstract projection where people can move images on a screen to reveal an amazing animation underneath.
  • Local artist HeARTbeatgal will be creating a collaborative piece of art with the participation of Museum visitors. She will invite visitors to contribute to the art by making their thumbprint in a chosen colour of ink.
  • Local knitter, Greta Grip, will be on-site with her knitted QR codes. These codes will, once scanned with a smartphone, link to interesting videos.

Museum guests will be able to enjoy the festivities from 8pm to midnight and guests can gain access to an exclusive VIP lounge where they can have a drink next to the creepy crawlies, simply by texting the SMS code “nature3″ to 12321.

Special food stations and bars will be available where partiers can grab a quick bite and drink and in the glass lantern area, guests can dance from 8:00 PM to midnight to an eclectic mix of tunes spun by Ottawa’s DJ TDot.

Tickets are $20 each (tax included) and do not include food and beverages, which will be sold separately.
