For our first edition of the Ottawa Valley Moms show, I did a segment on DIY gift ideas. Christmas can be an expensive time of year for everyone, so finding some creative do it yourself gift ideas helps cut costs. If you missed the show, you can watch it here!
One of my favorite gift ideas was the DIY Hot Chocolate. It was simple to make and cost less than $15.00.

Here’s What You Will Need To Do:
Decorate the mason jar however you want. I used card stock and ribbon to create a Christmas theme. Be Creative and personalize each jar for the person you are gifting them to.
Next you want to layer your ingredients.
First pour your hot chocolate in to the mason jar. I used 2 cups of hot chocolate so I could make enough for 2-3 people.
Next pour 1 cup marsh mellows. Shake jar as needed to obtain the layers.
Pour 3/4 cup chocolate chips (semi sweet, dark chocolate, or mint)
Finally crush up some peppermints. I used candy canes and crushed them in a grinder. Pour on top.
Complete your Hot Chocolate gifts with a special message.
Merry Christmas! Enjoy this on a cold day. Mix with hot water.
The great thing about this gift is that you can personalize the ingredients as well. You can buy different flavors of hot chocolate, chocolate chips, and even candy. Be creative.
Next I did a DIY Vanilla Sugar Scrub. These are great gift ideas for your mother, best friend, or girlfriend. You can find a variety of recipes on line. Again this was fairly simple to make. I had most of the ingredients on hand which cut the cost of this gift. In total I spent $5.00 for this craft.

Here’s What You Will Need To Do:
Decorate the jar with ribbon and card stock. Cut a piece of card stock so that you can write the directions and tape on the front of the jar. Using your two sided tape, add the decorations to the glass jar before adding the ingredients
Next mix the brown sugar 3/4 cup, white sugar 3/4 cup, and vanilla 1Tablespoon in a bowl. Mix well. Add a dash of olive oil until you have a good consistency. Don’t add too much olive oil, as it can overpower the scent of your Vanilla scrub.
Once everything is mixed well, take a spoon and add it carefully to the jar. Try not to get it on the sides of the jar so it doesn’t look messy.
Again you can add a personal message to the jar, and directions on how to use it.
Merry Christmas! Take a small amount and rub over hands, rinse with warm water.
With both of these crafts you can get creative, and tailor them to the person you are gifting them to. You can say a lot with a home made gift. These crafts can be found on .
