Fun Activities for the Fall

  • Delicious

Fall is just around the corner. I have to admit that I am enjoying the cooler mornings and having to throw on a sweater when we are heading out for a walk. I also love fall because there is so much to do with your kids in the cool crisp weather.

My son loves being outside. I mean if I would let him he would play outside from son up to son down. As soon as he wakes up he runs to the door and says OUT. I am still dragging my sleepy butt out of bed, so try to distract until the morning tea has kicked in.

This got my thinking. What are some fun activities we can enjoy with our kids during the Fall season? Here are some ideas we came up with.

Outdoors
Leaves  -Have your children help rake up a pile of leaves. Now let the fun begin. Your kids can jump in the leaves, hid in them, throw them in the air. The fun really is endless.

Walk/Hike - Bundle up and go for a nice walk.  The fall colours are beautiful at this time of year so go for a hike on a trail, or walk around your community.  Your kids can kick through the leaves that have fallen on the ground, and throw them around as you walk.  You can even challenge your kids by having them identify which tree the leaves have fallen from.

Explore - Explore your community.  There are always lots to see and do in your local community at this time of year.  If anything you can look at the nice decorations and take a peak at any Hallowe’en decorations.

Field Trips – One of my favourite things to do this time of year is take my son to local apple orchards and pumpkin patches.  These can be free to enter and usually has lots of offer the kiddies.  Some have mazes, apple picking and hay rides. This is a great way to get outdoors and stay active with your family.  End the trip with a glass of apple cider and maybe a donut.

Outdoor Sports - Get your kids together to play some outdoor sports, football, catch, tag.  Anything to get outside to stay active.

Indoors

Water Play -Fill up the sink or tub with bubbles and water and let your kids play.  My son was happy with some cups, that he could fill and dump out.  Made for hours of fun.

Baking – Let your kids help with baking.  They love scooping floor into a measuring cup, dumping ingredients in to a bowl.  The best part, they get to indulge in the end.

Crafts – Print out craft templates for free on the internet and create your own craft room at home.  Most of them require stuff from around the house, so is easy on the wallet.

Box Fun – If you have a extra big box lying around make a house or car out of it.  Your kids can take part in decorating them and then they will enjoy playing with them for hours.

Household Items – Let your kids play in the Tupperware drawer or with the pots and pans.  They will enjoy rummaging through cupboards that are usually off limits.

Rent A Movie – Rnnt a new movie for you and your kids.  Pop some popcorn and make hot chocolate. We all enjoy curling up for a good movie once in awhile, why not make it a family affair.

What do you do with your kids in the Fall?  What is your favorite indoor activity? What is your favorite outdoor activity?
