If You’re Considering a Tablet, You Might Want to Wait Until February 9th

If you’re considering adding a tablet to your household, you might want to hold off until February 9th.  Microsoft announced, in a recent press release, that the Surface Windows 8 Pro will be released in Canada and the US on February 9th.

Here is an excerpt taken from the official Microsoft blog:

Powered by an Intel Core i5 processor, Surface Windows 8 Pro provides the power and performance of a laptop in a tablet package and will run all Windows 8 applications as well as current Windows 7 desktop applications. Last month, Microsoft announced Surface Windows 8 Pro pricing starting at $899 and that it will be available in 64 GB and 128 GB models. A Surface Pen is included and makes for an amazing experience for writers, graphic designers or even engineers, and with Palm Block technology writing and drawing is fun for everyone on Surface Windows 8 Pro.*

The Surface Windows 8 Pro will give you the best of both worlds. It provides you the power of portability as well as the efficiency of a laptop when you connect a Touch Cover Limited Edition for Surface to it. The Touch Cover is a keyboard and cover in one that provides a protective cover for your tablet while also acting as a pressure-sensitive keyboard, making the tablet a device you can use in your day-to-day life.

The thing that excites me most about the Touch Covers is their new, limited edition colours and prints. Available in blue, pink and red, these cover/keyboards will give your tablet a unique and personalized feel.

If you’re a bit nervous about using just the touch screen, you can also purchase an accompanying Wedge Touch Mouse.  Inspired by Surface, this special edition Wedge Touch Mouse was created to match Surface devices. Specifically designed to complement your Surface experience and provide four-way touch scrolling and easy navigation at your fingertips. Plus, it features Microsoft’s BlueTrack Technology.**

I’ve been using the new Windows 8 phone, the Nokia Lumia 920, for the past two months and the technology that I am seeing in the smartphone, which is the same technology that the Surface has, is incredible. The Windows 8 environment creates a rich platform on which to live your day-to-day life. The customizability of the home screen will ensure that the important parts of your life and household are front and center.

I can’t wait to get my hands on a Surface Pro (and if Microsoft is listening, I’d love a Touch Cover in pink! haha) to see how it compares to other tablets – specifically those that I already have in my home. I especially can’t wait to see if it creates a more effective work experience while on the go as that is the one thing I find lacking with the tablet that I currently use.

The one thing that I know will trip people up about this tablet is the price point. However, one must consider that this will replace your laptop. It has the same operating system as your Windows 7/8 laptop does and you’ll have the power to install software to it as well as take advantage of the Windows 8 apps. Add in the Touch Cover and the Wedge Mouse and you have a powerful, portable system that will do everything you need it to do and more.
