Ubooly Review [Video]

Ubooly Review [Video]

  • Delicious

When our box from Ubooly showed up on our doorstep, I didn’t know what to expect.  The company had asked if I’d like to review one and let Willow play with it and since it involved technology – my iPhone – I had no choice but to say yes.  I’m a bit of a geek and I’m hoping that some of that rubs off on my wee Willow.

What the Ubooly Is & How It Works

The Ubooly is a plush toy that is super padded inside and has a zipper along the top side.  It is this zipper that you open and slide your iPhone (or iPod Touch) into.  Before sliding your iPhone / iPod Touch into the plush toy, you install the Ubooly app onto your device and you sync it to your code that is included inside the box.  It is this app that causes the Ubooly to “come to life” once the device is inside of the plush toy.  The recommended age range for the Ubooly is 4 to 9 years old.

Once you put your device inside the toy, the app is interactive and the Ubooly will talk to your child.  When we turned Ubooly on, it yawned and “woke up” and said hello and asked Willow what she wanted to do.  You can then say simple commands to the Ubooly like, “Tell me a joke” and “Tell me a story” and it will respond accordingly.  If you don’t ask it to do something in particular, it will prompt your child with those questions.

You can also download some really fun colouring pages from the Ubooly site here.

How You Set It Up

The Ubooly is really easy to set it up.  Here’s what we did:

  1. Unbox your Ubooly
  2. Download and install the Ubooly app on your iPhone / iPod Touch
  3. Enter the code into the app as written on the card that comes with your Ubooly
  4. Unzip the Ubooly
  5. Slide your device into the Ubooly
  6. Play!

I have to say this is actually super cute! When I was told about it, I thought it sounded weird, but it is cute!
