One of the things I loved about Halloween as a kid was getting to dress up! I just loved the idea of getting to be somebody else even just for one night! Of course all the really cool costumes would be hard to wear at night because as most Canadian kids you had to make sure it would fit over a snowsuit I would remember rushing home on Halloween from school and start working on my costume right away making sure that everything was just right! Once my Mom got home from work she would help us finish up any last minute prep which most of the time meant putting on any face make-up we needed. A quick dinner and we were let loose on the night to fill up those pillow cases with sugar goodness!
Even now I still like dressing up and my favourite costume was one I made with my ladies ball team years ago for our Halloween themed end of the year banquet. Our entire team went as the Rockford Peaches from the movie ‘A League of Their Own’. We put in so much time making the costumes and were so happy with how they turned out. I have used this costume a few times since then and as recent as last weekend at Blissdom for Saturday’s Costume and Karaoke Night.
As I mentioned in a previous post, my husband absolutely loves Halloween and continues to plan a costume no matter if there is a party to go to or not! He likes to make his own and starts thinking about it mid-September…..yup it is a very serious matter! We’ve even started our own ‘Tickle Trunk’ (and for those of you who don’t know what that is means I’m getting old!) with our former costumes for our future kids We are so excited to share this time of year with our future kids and I’m not going to lie we have already discussed costumes!
What is your most favourite costume you have ever worn? What will you and your family be dressing up as this year?
