Product Review: Chipster from Epicure Selections

  • Delicious

This Christmas I received a cool new kitchen gadget as a gift! I got the Chipster from Epicure Selections. If you haven’t heard about this item yet, basically what it is, is a silicone baker that allows you to make homemade, healthy chips….in the microwave!!

I am a big Epicure fan, and had seen the Chipster work, and sampled the chips at a Epicure party last winter, but didn’t purchase it. So was pleasantly surprised to receive the Chipster along with the Epicure Ceramic Slicer and Epicure Poutine Seasoning for Christmas. A gift for a healthy snack made easy!

Here is the Chipster, Slicer and Poutine Seasoning from Epicure!

It really is just as easy as it sounds! :) For 1 person, 1 potato really makes enough chips for a little snack! I chose to keep the skins on, but washed it obviously! Then you just slice it up (using the Epicure slicer, or mandolin if you have one), and arrange them on the Chipster – see below!

Then you just sprinkle with your seasoning! Be it salt, pepper, favourite herbs or spices, an Epicure spice or popcorn seasoning – anything really goes! I chose the Poutine Seasoning and a bit of sea salt! (which was tres yummy, and really did remind me of a poutine!)

The instructions that came with the Chipster says that for a potato, you would then cook for between 3-4 minutes. I found that it took more around 5-51/2 minutes for my chips to be cooked to my liking.

So with no oil, no butter – just potatoes and some seasoning – you have homemade, healthy chips!! And they really are, pretty delish! The product info says that you can also use the Chipster with sweet potatoes and apples as well! I think apples would be yummers!

I really think that the Chipster is pretty cool! It is easy to wash and clean, and bends, so stores easily! For the retail value of $20 – a great buy!

My only downfall, is that it kind of made our microwave shut down! Yep, it would just completely shut down after about 4 & 1/2 minutes! lol Once I unplugged and let it sit for a couple minutes, it was ok. But I think there is just too much moisture/hot air from withdrawing all the moisture from the potato, for my microwave to handle! When we made them at the party, we didn’t have that problem, so I am sure it is just our microwave!

If you would like more information on any of these 3 items – The Chipster, Poutine Seasoning or Cermaic Slicer – you can find them and much more on the Epicure Selections website!

Have you heard of the Epicure Selection Chipster!? If you’ve tried it or have one, what do you think!?

Looks cool but I think it would take a LONG time to make a snack large enough for more then one person. Many years ago I had a microwave chip maker where the chips sat in slots upright and you could make a lot more at a time. A much better design I think. Though the poutine seasoning does sound yummy!!

I totally agree with you Kimberly! It would take a long time to make chips for a large crowd, or even like half of a regular bag of chips. It is neat for a small snack or healthy alternative though I guess. What brand was the one you used to have? That sounds like a good one!

Not just your microwave. I have made them too (no gadget needed, just a plate & paper towel) but I had the same problem of my microwave shutting down. Trying the oven next time :)

Glad to know! I will have to try the oven too, although I don't think that The Chipster is oven safe ;)
